The site’s compact footprint and steep elevation change posed a unique design challenge. We needed to guide the flow from the higher home threshold down to the pool patio without disrupting usability or aesthetic balance.
Construction access was also limited, making logistics and project management critical to success.
THE VISION
The clients envisioned a refreshed outdoor environment that felt cohesive with their modern new pool house yet grounded in natural tones and textures. Wasson was brought in to design the transition between the elevated home and the pool area, revitalizing the outdated yard into a naturalistic and modern poolside escape.

What once felt like a disjointed transition zone is now a cohesive extension of the home’s architecture and the pool house beyond. The new staircase and layered planting beds guide the eye, and the movement, through each change in elevation, turning what was once a constraint into a defining feature.
Modern hardscape materials ground the design with clean structure, while natural textures and tones soften the look, blending the contemporary pool house with its surroundings. Each tier and terrace serves a purpose, creating an easy, intuitive flow from the home to the water’s edge. The space now feels connected, intentional, and alive with quiet energy; an outdoor retreat that complements both form and function.
